Project Overview
The Secluded Garden Terrace was completed in 2019 in Burlington, Ontario. This project transformed a small residential backyard into a private outdoor space for dining, relaxation, and quiet time at home.
The client wanted to make better use of limited space without making the backyard feel crowded. The result is a compact garden terrace that feels comfortable, intentional, and connected to the surrounding landscape.
The Small Backyard Challenge
Small backyards need careful planning. Every curve, planting area, patio edge, and finish has to work together so the space feels usable instead of tight.
This project is a strong real-life example of how thoughtful small backyard landscaping ideas can turn a limited outdoor area into a more inviting place to spend time.
The Design Approach
Our team designed a curved patio layout that softened the space and helped the backyard feel more natural. The layout was planned to create a comfortable area for dining and relaxation while still leaving room for garden details and movement through the space.
The carefully chosen finishes and intimate layout helped the backyard feel more expansive than its size might suggest. This is where proper landscape design can make a major difference in a small yard.
Key Features
- Small Backyard Layout: The design made better use of limited space while keeping the backyard comfortable and practical.
- Curved Patio Design: The curved layout created a softer, more natural flow through the space.
- Dining and Relaxation Area: The backyard was planned as an inviting place to sit, eat, unwind, and enjoy the garden setting.
- Garden Terrace Feel: The finishes and planting areas helped create a private, finished outdoor space.
The Finished Backyard
The finished garden terrace shows how a small backyard can still feel polished, useful, and personal. With the right layout and details, even a limited outdoor space can become one of the most enjoyable parts of the home.
This project is a strong example of landscape construction on a smaller scale, where the details matter just as much as the overall layout.
