Project Overview
The Contemporary Backyard Escape was completed in 2023 in the countryside of Dundas, Ontario. The homeowners had a large pool and sprawling backyard, but the space had become overgrown, outdated, and uninspiring.
They wanted a complete backyard transformation that would make the property feel inviting again, with dedicated areas for relaxation, entertaining, outdoor cooking, and everyday outdoor living.
The Backyard Challenge
The main challenge was bringing several functional spaces together while keeping the large backyard feeling natural and connected. With a pool already in place, the new design needed to improve the surrounding areas and create a better flow throughout the property.
This type of project depends on thoughtful landscape design, clear planning, and careful construction sequencing. Each feature had to feel like part of one complete backyard, rather than a collection of separate outdoor areas.
The Design-Build Approach
Our team used a landscape design-build approach to plan and construct the new backyard. The final design included an outdoor kitchen, fire pit, outdoor fireplace, cabana, spacious pool patio, retaining walls, and gardens.
A key part of the process was helping the clients visualize the finished space through detailed 2D drawings and renderings. These visuals helped show how the different elements would work together across the backyard and allowed adjustments to be made before construction moved forward.
