Project Overview
The Grand Front Entry was completed in 2021 in the Westdale area of
Hamilton, Ontario. This project was designed to enhance the front landscaping of a historically charming home that had recently undergone a complete upgrade. The existing driveway and entrance were small, outdated, and lacked curb appeal. Old railroad ties and overgrown plants made the front yard feel closed in, so the goal was to open up the entrance and create a more welcoming arrival.
The Front Yard Challenge
The main challenge was creating a front entrance that felt spacious and functional while still respecting the character of the home. The new layout needed to connect the driveway, walkway, front patio, retaining walls, gardens, and lighting into one cohesive design. This type of project depends on thoughtful
landscape design, especially when curb appeal, everyday access, and the overall style of the home all need to work together.
The Design-Build Approach
Our team opened up the front entrance and created a spacious front yard patio that connects naturally with the new driveway and walkway. The design made the front of the home feel more inviting while improving the function of the entrance. The full
landscape construction scope included landscape lighting, retaining walls, gardens, a stone patio, driveway, and walkway. For homeowners planning a similar upgrade, this project is a strong example of how
front yard landscaping ideas can improve both curb appeal and daily use.
Key Features
- Front Yard Patio: A spacious patio area created a more generous and welcoming entrance.
- New Driveway: The driveway was integrated into the front yard design for better flow and function.
- Stone Walkway: The walkway improved access and helped guide visitors toward the front entrance.
- Retaining Walls: Retaining walls added structure and helped shape the updated front yard layout.
- Landscape Lighting: Lighting improved the look, usability, and presence of the front entrance.
- Garden Areas: New gardens softened the hardscape and helped the entrance feel finished.
The Finished Front Entry
The finished front entry feels more open, polished, and connected to the character of the home. The driveway, stone patio, walkway, retaining walls, lighting, and gardens work together to create a stronger first impression. This project is a good example of how front yard landscaping can improve curb appeal while also making the entrance more functional for everyday use.
